    Great experience

Attended a workshop with my mum and had a great time. Ruth was a really amazing teacher, informative and helpful. Enjoyed seeing the workshop and the kilns and great explanation of all the processes. Thanks Ruth, second time I’ve been and will be back 😊

    Excellent

This is the 4th Jo Downs class I have done and the second with Ruth, the class leader. As a ex art teacher, she is very patient, giving ideas, suggestions and support to help you achieve your goal. As other attendees have said, have an idea of what you want to make. Take look at Pinterest or what Jo Downs makes for ideas (you won’t be able to replicate some of it because of the materials/ techniques she uses) but you can decide on something for the wall, a vase or bowl. Ruth is great at explaining what’s possible and helping you make something you will be proud of. I expect I’ll be going again as it brings me so much joy and satisfaction to make something so unique and I get to engage with my creativity away from the rush of life.

    Glass fusion workshop

A fabulous workshop. Well organised and engaging. Need to be prepared in advance for what you would like to make. Ruth was an excellent tutor and the day just flew by. Thank you.

If I were to offer one singular piece of advice before any one goes on a workshop, whether it's their first or their twenty first, it would be "Don't go empty headed!"
By that I mean, have a clear idea of what you would like to make and how you are going to make it.
It's a good idea to put your ideas on paper and even do a basic drawing of your design. This will give the workshop tutor a much better idea of what it is you are trying to achieve. The old saying goes " Procrastination is the thief of time" and as you only have a limited number of hours to complete your work, you need to use it wisely and creatively.
Having said all that, you will have the time of your life and you will come away having made a completely unique work of art in glass, that you will treasure for many years to come and your friends and family will be well impressed.
